What About Phthalates

Phthalates are chemicals used to soften plastics, and are found in all sorts of products including jelly dildos. Some people, such as Award-Winning Sex Columnist Tristan Taormino, report burning sensations when using Phthalate-containing PVC dildos.

Additionally, there are other potential health-risks: there is an unconfirmed cancer risk. Moreover, in rodent studies large doses of phthalates have damaged the kidneys, the liver, the lungs and the developing testes of lab rats. The EU has prohibited the manufacture of children's toys containing phthalates and Canada has banned dog toys with phthalates. While the risk of cancer is inconclusive, we feel it is better to be safe than sorry.
